a recent chip can be repaired but a crack can notCan you repair a cracked car windshield or have to replace it?
you'tr going to have to replace. How can you fix glass?
stick it with sealotape and it wil be as good as new
replace. it is just going to keep spreading otherwise
the whole windshield will have to be replaced most of the time you can go to a junk yard and buy one but you have to know how to take it out yourself and buy a window installation kit and have to know how to put it in without breaking it yourself but if you dont know none of this and you have no one that can lend a friend a hand and help then you will have to call a specialist to do the job......
you need a new windshield, the cracks too big to repair.
We can repair the cracks if they are not any larger than a quarter. Usually if you have full coverage insurance they will pay for it b/c they don't want to pay for a windshield. If your deductible is low though like $250 and lower. Also we replace windshields for free for your cost and bill the insurance company, premiums don't go up for this.

But like I said it only works if you have a low deductible and full coverage insurance. Other than that it has to be smaller than a quarter and will run you about $50.

A black walnut fell on my windshield, cracked it, and it needs to be replaced. Should my landlord pay?

The only place I can park is under the black walnut tree, but I don't want to replace my windshield and have it happen again! My car insurance deductible is $500, so it will be an out-of-pocket expense for me. Should my landlord pay to have my windshield replaced? Is it unreasonable to ask him to trim the tree back or completely cut it down. He is very slow to do things and he doesn't want to spend any money! A black walnut fell on my windshield, cracked it, and it needs to be replaced. Should my landlord pay?
any damage like that is classified as an act of nature, no on is liable.

but you do need the glass replaced. some insurance companies will replace that as part of their plan. A black walnut fell on my windshield, cracked it, and it needs to be replaced. Should my landlord pay?
no landlords want to spend any money, and it is deffinately not unreasonable to ask him that, you just need to go talk to him and try to work out the problem with him the best you can. He might not want to pay for your windshield though, but I think he might have to, you'll have to talk to somebody above him, but I'm not all that sure about all that though.
Sadly, he is not responsible for the cracked windshield. Like a car that has it's new paint job ruined by a water sprinkler, the damage is considered as a part of your liability for ownership of the car. He could not foresee the damage more than yourself. That's how the courts see it.
Are you sure a walnut cracked the screen? Must have had a flaw in it in the first place. But back to your question, no . your landlord is not responsible for a nut parking his car under a tree that can drop a nut as to break the glass. If a nut falls fast enough to break a windshield then surely if it hit the roof it would result in a dent. Find somewhere else to park your car or drape something over it to protect it.

  • How do i replace my windshield wiper motor on a 97 ford windstar van driver side?

Go to an auto parts store and buy a Chilton's manual on your model vehicle it will show you how to do maintenance on your vehicle

Will my insurance go up because i have to replace my windshield? can i get the windshield replaced anywhere I?

it depends on the company %26amp; the cause of the damage. you're agent should be able to tell you if it will affect your rates. also, it is your legal right to take your vehicle anywhere you chose. anyone who says otherwise, is lying. with that said, insurance companies cannot force you to go any shop they want you to, but, they can offer benefits of going to theirs. also, they will not guarantee the repairs of any other shop because they have no affiliation with them. Will my insurance go up because i have to replace my windshield? can i get the windshield replaced anywhere I?
Depends on why you need to replace your windshield. I know that when I lived in the mountains, our rates were higher because rocks kept cracking our windshields, but the insurance rate never went up because of that. Will my insurance go up because i have to replace my windshield? can i get the windshield replaced anywhere I?
Some idiot threw a brick thru my windshield and since I had a $500 deductible anyways (and replacing the windshield was under $500) I didn't tell my insurance. I wouldn't think your insurance would go up. Unless it broke because you slammed into someone else's car or house or something. There's windshield replacement companies. They'll even sweep up the broken glass for you. How sweet.
if you have AAA they will cover it and your ins wont go up.
It depends on how your windshield got busted.... it would probably be cheaper in the long run if you just payed for it yourself.
replace it yourself...no need in telling the insurance company and spilling the beans on yourself!

check to see if the hose has slipped off. if that is good and you can see the leak, put a small amount of SEALALL ( no mixing required ) or similar product on the tip of your finger (or anything that can reach it) and dab it on the hole. wait an hour and pour a little fluid in to see if you got it. if you can't see it you must remove the reservoir and do the repair.
dry it off good and put some duct tape on it. i did that a few times.

Does anyone know where chevy put the windshield washer pump on a 2005 malibu maxx, and is it easy to replace?

My windshield washers stopped working about two weeks ago. Wipers still work so I ruled out the fuse. From what I understand there is only one pump that supplies fluid to both the front and the back windows. I looked around under the hood, but didn't see anything obvious. My motto is: If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. I would be very cautious of this.
Unless it's your boyfriend then yes its a scam
I think its probably a scam nothing is really free. A windshield can very in price from 100 to 500 dollars plus labor. I would stay away from that.
did he tell you your windshield is cracked? or do you know its cracked?
Nobody does anything for free, not even your boyfriend.
    it could be a scam.
Yeah, he sounds pretty shady. If you do have a cracked windshield and wish to replace it, there are plenty of reputable shops that specialize in replace auto glass. I always use Safelite. They do a great job and if you have insurance, it may only cost you your deductible.
Actually I live i Florida and By law you can get a free windshield. The way it works is your Insurance has to do it for free with no deductible,

    I just had mine done.

To really answer the question I'd need the year... but looking at a 1998 318, the OEM part lists for $298.41, and the ';after market'; glass lists for $193.90.

Depending on the shop you select, you may be able to get a discount if you're paying for this yourself (instead of an insurance claim). I checked the TeleGlass Web site and it came up at $281.03 installed, plus a possible piece of molding at $17.50, but again where you are located makes a difference (some regions of the country have different pricing).

    175.00 to 300.00
Probably close to $1500 for a new back glass. These are not cheap, and this is why I always keep glass coverage on my cars. Don't try to install this yourself to save money either. The back glass holds up the roof in a rollover (something that Neon's are prone to doing). You mess it up and the car caves in, you may end up with a c-spine injury and lawsuits from your passengers.
Shouldnt be over 300 brand new. Have a professional install it as you do not have the proper tools or experience to make a air and water tight seal.

  • Can I use insurance to replace a windshield that was cracked by a not a fault thing? eg. heat on cold window?

if you have full coverage, most likely you have glass coverage (a lot of companies offer this as a default). as a result, yes you could. it would even be covered if you were at fault, that's what collision/comprehensive coverage is for. now, a fun fact: most insurance companies also have in their language that if the glass is repaired instead of replaced, you don't have to pay your deductible. read your policy or call your agent. additionally, there are a lot of states that have waiver of deductibles for glass (but some are glass type specific). Someone already mentioned Florida, some other states are Massachusetts (it is automatically no deductible irregardless if repaired or replaced for this entire state), Arizona, New York, Connecticut, South Carolina, and a couple other I can't seem to remember off the top of my head. The point is, read your policy. You may or may not have to pay your deductible and you can contact your agent to see how it will affect your rates. Weigh the facts and make your decision. Can I use insurance to replace a windshield that was cracked by a not a fault thing? eg. heat on cold window?
look at your deductible. get an estimate on how much it will cost. if the cost is below your deductible, then no you cant but if its above, then yes it can

but id suggest doing it on your own money. even the smallest claims can raise up yoru insurane 40 percent for three yearsCan I use insurance to replace a windshield that was cracked by a not a fault thing? eg. heat on cold window?
If you have glass coverage, you would pay the deductible and the balance would be paid by insurance.
Your rates will not go up if you go through your insurance unless you abuse the coverage. The windshield would be covered subject to your deductible, if you have one for glass.
Read your policy. If you have glass coverage you can, and there may or may not be a deductible amount to worry about.
If you live in the state of Florida, Insurance companies will replace the windshield at no cost to you and no deductible.

It is a Florida law...hope you live here.
If you have comprehensive coverage - yes. Your deductible may apply (depends on the laws of your state).
In New York glass is covered without having to pay a deductable that is if you have comprehensive insurance.
Yes u can claim it under ur comperhensive coverage. Just make sure u tell them a rock hit from the highway.

How frequent do windshield wipers need to be replaced?

hello i want to know how frequent do we need to replace the windshield wipers, not the rubber part but the metal part. And how much do they cost usually? I have a honda accord 01 model. thanks. How frequent do windshield wipers need to be replaced?
The metal part can and does last much longer than a year, but I always buy a complete wiper blade (rubber) and the metal housing at the same time, about once a year. The cost shouldn't be more than about $15-20 maximum for both wipers. How frequent do windshield wipers need to be replaced?
At least once a year. The sun dries them out and they become inflexible and so don't do their job. You don't want to find out you need new ones when it's raining.
OK, when you say the metal part, I assume you're talking about the blade assy. I've allways found it best to replace the whole blade assy when they start to streak, and make noise. I don't bother with the blade refills because they're a pain to install, they don't last as long, and sometimes they're made to fit allot of differant makes and models of vehicals. I think your best bet would be to buy NAME BRAND wiper blades to fit your car. I usually change mine about once a year around this time.Other than that, nothing else should need attention. (washer fluid not included) HINT: From time to time, take a damp paper towel and wipe off the rubber part of your wiper blades. You'll be amazed at all the dirt that accumilates.
I replace mine twice a year. It seems like that's as long as they will last before they start leaving streaks on the windshield.
You should change out your blades every 6 months.

The reasoning behind this is the rubber gets dry and little rocks and other things chew up the blade a bit and they just don't work as good anymore.

Is it true that having your car windshield replaced makes it unsafe?

I bought a car that has a chip with spider cracks on the windshield right in my line of vision. So I called up a windshield place and asked about getting it replaced and they said they prefer to do repairs because replacing the windshield makes it unsafe to drive. They said in case of an accident the replaced windshield will pop out and cause the roof of the car to fall in or send the passengers out the window because only the original factory seal prevents this. Please advise if this is indeed the case. I want to make the right decision and get this taken care of immediately. Is it true that having your car windshield replaced makes it unsafe?
i used to work in a glass shop and a body shop, i have put many windshields in . and seen some pop out in a collision but 90% of the ones involved in a collision was factory installed windshields they will all pop out in a severe collision, The factory seal is the same as a replacement seal. if it is done properly. all of your glass shops are supposed to meet regualtions on this, not saying all do. I can say it is easier to remove a factory windshield than to remove a replacement. your dealer ships replace them every day, upon arrival, they are sometimes damaged during shipping.so there is no real guarantee it hasnt already been replaced, its safer to drive through a clear view than a busted cracked glass, sounds to me like the shop has doubhts in thier work , some places do not have the staff, the equipment to replace them and do not want the hassle and the job of doing a job that they dont feel comfortble with but they dont want to loose a $ so they want tell you that. so i would strngly recomend going to another shop. ask your dealership, .. just choose the best shop and repairs do not take the cracks away they just stop them from spreading further. if it is in your view it will not pass state inspection for a inspection sticker. just make sure the shop uses factory glass not a generic replacemnt. this could indeed cause the above .. but the proper glass for that car and installed correct . will stay in as good as the original .. i can promise you that... good luck. and just a point of advice if it was the case of this during a collision what risk would u rather take? if you drive with the current spider cracks obstructing your view you are more likely have a accident correct? now if you replace it and its done correctly . are you as likley to have a collision? and most car accidents doesnt cause windshiled damages, and if the passenger is wearing the seat belt will he or she go thru the windshield? and if not wearing glass or no glass the passenger will not be stopped by the glass, in a sever accident. so i would strongly suggest telling this shop where to stick it. and go else where. and one other thing if the collision is sever enuff you think the glass is gonna be strong enough to keep the roof up? you can take the wind shiled out and have same results.... I have heard all excuses of being in the wrong business but these guys sureley is in wrong kind of business. LOL sorry so long of a answer .. hope you make the correct decision. good luck.Is it true that having your car windshield replaced makes it unsafe?
if you need to drive it immeadiatley... before the adhesive sets up

it's unsafe... it needs to cure for the windshield to be safe
That only happens 70% of the time.
It only makes it unsafe until the adhesive is dry, after that the hold should be just as strong as the factory one. i workd at a body shop for awhile and we did lots of windsheild replacements and i never heard of it being unsafe after its dry
Sounds like a right load of crap to me. As far as im aware its just as safe with a new windscreen.
    no
That just does not make any sense, go to another shop and ask them.
Never heard that one before... Which ever is more cost efficient I would do. Shop around for prices.

I've replaced my windshield 3 times... never had a problem
I have never in my life heard that replacing a windshield is unsafe, and I go through a windshield every year here in Arizona. You may want to call another place and ask them. I think it's BS.
First time i hear such thing... You have me worried now.

    I've had mine replaced twice!
I never heard of it. I hope that isn't the case because I just had my windshield replaced 2 weeks ago. Either way, driving with a cracked windshield that bounced around when going over bumps and splashed me from underneath during wet conditions can't be safer than having it replaced.
sounds like they don't want to do the work.

If they do it right it is just as safe as factory. I'd call someone else. Get a junkyard window if you can, they are MUCH cheaper.
Not necessarily true. Yes, when you have a windshield replaced, you'll break the orginal factory seal and that seal will never be the same. However, if you don't get the windshield replaced, you have loss of vision (especially if it's cracked all across the driver's side), run the risk of getting a ticket for having your view obstructed, and the more it cracks, the weaker the glass becomes and you run the risk of more potential damage to your car and to yourself if an accident occurs. The rule is if the crack is under the size of a quarter, fix it; if it's bigger, replace it.
Run from this shop. That is totally wrong!!! They are just trying to sell what they have. A replacement windshield, properly installed is as good as original, and better than one that is pitted and cracked. If you have comprehensive insurance often glass has no deductible.

    Stay away from these guys.
Find another repair shop. One with a better attitude.

Nope they don't pop out, when set.

Did they want you to sell the car?

Napa stores sell a $10 repair stuff for cracks. Makes them invisible. It says.
You'll need to call a different windshield repair shop if that is what they are telling. I California if we have a cracked windshield we can get a ticket. The right place will make sure it is safe to drive. I have had mine replaced in the past and had no problems with. A lot of these repair places like to take advantage of women so be careful. Call around.
I have had chip repair done and it is still fine after 4 years, but every windshield I have had replaced has leaked. So if they leak I would assume they are not sealed as well as before. Not sure you could ever get a seal as good as the original.
This is the first time I have ever heard of that. I'll bet they would charge more to repair the windshield than what a new one would cost. I would take it somewhere else and have the windshield replaced.
if the company is using shoddy workmanship, and sub standard glues in the ';fix'; then yes, course if anything went wrong id sue the hell out of the shop for criminal negligence. a reputable shop will guarantee their work, use trained employees, and use factory recomended adhesives. if the shop is reputable there wont be anything wrong and it will be as if the car just had the factory install the windshield. ask your insurance company for any local shops that do this service, and to recomend a shop. if your in florida, the insurance carrier foots the bill for the windshield
What ever you do, go to another repair shop. Must have been some guy walking past on the street that answered the phone. When a windshield is replaced by a reputable shop the adhesive is compatable with that used at the factory. The only time it could lessen the strength would be before the adhesive is fully set. It is like tooth paste when it comes out of the tube, only black. It begins to set up as soon as it is exposed to the air. And yes it is a very important part of the vehicle strength.
That is complete bologna!! It is only unsafe if the adhesive is not completely set.
    LOL..

Honey.. that's the biggest load of cr*p I've ever heard!

UNSAFE is not replacing it! When they replace the windshield and they do a good job it will not come off flying and hurl everyone out of the car. It wouldn't do that even if it DID come off, which it isn't!

    .
    BS, they are wrong.
Yes, it is somewhat true. No aftermarket replacement can be of same quality as that of factory installation. As a matter of fact, the windshield is a major body structural component, and some vehicles - like ford vans - actually may collapse without it. Needless to say, water leaks, wind noise, etc. may develop as a result of windshield replacement. That's why it's always better to repair a windshield whenever possible than to replace it. Of course, if it's broken completely or cracked all the way across, there is no choice, and it has to be replaced.

How do I replace the windshield wipers on a 2005 ford taurus?

It's fairly simple to do. First of all, you want to check with your local parts store or parts provider to get the proper size for the windshield wipers. Once you have the windshield wipers handy, the rest is easy. We'll start off on the driver's side wiper. Go to the driver's side windshield, and pull up on the entire wiper and arm. This will raise it in about a 90 degree angle with your hood. Once the arm is raised, you will see that the old blade pivots. Take the old blade and adjust it so it makes a ';T'; with the wiper arm. You will see a small button on the under side of the wiper blade, right where it attaches to the wiper arm. Depress this button, while simultaneously pulling the wiper downward towards the hood of the car. This process should be easy. Don't see the little tab or button to depress? You may need a small slotted screwdriver to help get yourself some leverage. Repeat these processes identically for the passenger side. Hope this helps.

a stress crack, it is covered under the factory warranty.

there is not much of a difference of glasses... but with a new vehicle, i would put in a factory glass... but check first with your insurance company... you probably have coverage.... I have a 2007 Toyota Camry SE. My windshield is cracking and i'm looking to replace it?
Not sure of the cost, but you can get some junk yards to install them much cheaper than a glass replacement company. Some install used ones, but some actually install new ones too. It depends how much you want to spend. Check your insurance first to see if you have glass coverage.

Good luck and sorry about your windsheild, thats a bummer. How do i fix a cracked windshield without replacing it?
Why not use your car insurance and have the windshield replaced? There's no other solution, and you need a full strength windshield for the air bags to work properly on the passenger side as well as protect you while driving.
There are companies that can repair that, but normally your insurance will cover the entire cost.
A crack, nothing. If it were a stone pop, you can have it filled.
heres to cheap ways to try if your handy with tools. 1. go to walmart and buy the fix a windshield kit in there automotive department about $12 ( i know they have it i work at one) 2. go to a junk yard and as carfully as you can pop the windshield out of a car that is like yours and put it in your car. (wind shields run about 30 bucks at the junk yard )

that would be the cheapest way to fix your problem but it all comes with risks so plan it carefully and good luck
once it has cracked and started to run there is no repairing it.

junk yard. they have a locator service and can call around to find one for you. if you are in southern califorinia, they have pickyour part where you can go in and take one off yourself.

look for a car that has been rearended.

a haynes manual may be of interest to you. well worth the 15.00 price or so.

i bet a new one is a dealer item.

edit-i checked jcwhitney.com. they have haynes manuals for honda's, i checked accord since i did not know your model. they are about 17.00. you may find them at your local autoparts store so you could check it out before buying. they did not have oem water bottles but sold universal kits which have the pump and everything included. you might be able to work one of these in if you have the room.

best bet, junkyard, ebay or search on internet and replace with used one. how bad is it damaged, could it be repaired with the correct adhesive. they are not pressurized so if it is not too damaged, it could be salvaged.

if you think it can or have a picture of it i couls suggest a repair scheme with the correct adhesive.

Replaced a broken windshield. How do I safely remove the stickers to transfer them?

I recently replaced a broken windshield. How do I safely remove the inspection sticker and registration sticker to transfer them to the new windshield? They are the break apart upon removal stickers.

I don't want to go to the DMV or go get it reinspected. So please don't respond with either one of those. I'm just asking how the auto glass people that come to your home or work transfer stickers when they replace your windshield. I did my windshield myself because I was looking to save a little money.Replaced a broken windshield. How do I safely remove the stickers to transfer them?
Whether you want to hear it or not, you will have to go back to the DMV for a replacement. If you kept your paperwork they will re-issue a sticker and won't need to re inspect it.

Those stickers can not be removed and re used. It ain't possible, or legal.Replaced a broken windshield. How do I safely remove the stickers to transfer them?
You could try a hair dryer and go very gently, that's about the best solution I know or cut old glass piece and tape to new window.
think they use wd-40...which is what they use to remove the old seal...........that and a scraper........btw even if the sticker is torn up it will still b valid........the cops will look at it harder because it will ';look stolen'; but since it wont b u will b perfectly legal and fine.....

Guys approximatley how much would it cost to get a cars front windshield replaced?

About how much would it cost to replace the entire front windshield?Guys approximatley how much would it cost to get a cars front windshield replaced?
Prices vary widely, depending on the vehicle. A common plain glass can be installed for as little as $200.00, and a heated glass can be $1000.00 or more.Guys approximatley how much would it cost to get a cars front windshield replaced?
If you pay some bozo with substandard glass, figure about $500.

If you do it yourself with a windshield from a boneyard, figure $50.

WTF is with the answer above me? That is just plain rude.
Well it all depends on the make and model of the car. Id look into your insurance and ask them if they can replace it. Most due. I have a 2000 make car and i had the glass changed 4 months ago it ran close to $280.00. But like i said it all depends on the make and model in most cases..
well it depends on what kind of car u have obviously. but i had to get mine replaced, i have a suburu impreza 1995, and i it was 160, and it was a brand new one.
i just replaced my 96 Corollas windshield for 240 dollars including moldings
It depends on the type of car. you may be able to find a shop that will do it for 300 dollars on a cheaper model car. but the more expensive the car the more it will cost.
Depending on if it is a hole all the way through or a crater like chunk taken out ,you should look in the phone book for auto glass repairs ,cause sometimes they can repair them instead of replacing them., but replacing it would depend on the car, I got my van windshield replaced at my job while I was working for $155.00. The co. had a mobile repair shop. Check around
It'll most likely be around $200. NOT worth going through insurance for.

Especially if your deductable is that much, plus, you'll have a claim on your file and likely your premium will increase on the next renewal.
dependns where you aquire from , show room may cost few hundred second hand garage around one hundred

    Mazda Miata Rear Windshield Replace?

Hi, myh back windshield has recently shattered and I was wondering if anyone knows how to replace these. It is on a soft top 2002. The windshield is glass.

Thank you.Mazda Miata Rear Windshield Replace?
When I replaced my top, my rear window was in perfect condition. I thought maybe someone might want it. But I was informed that the process of trying to replace the window in a top is almost as expensive as replacing the whole top so there was not much point.

On the other hand, how did it shatter? Many times glass is covered under your car insurance and they will cover the repair (minus your deductible.) I am curious whether an insurance claim would get you a new top or a new window only. It probably varies depending on the company.

FYI: I was able to get a new top on my 1999 (identical from a top perspective) installed and with labor for around $800 this summer.Mazda Miata Rear Windshield Replace?
To be honest your best bet might be to order a new top, which would be around $600. Another alternative is to order a back window and have an upholstery shop sew it in. That would be $200 for the window and another $150 for labor. I'm not totally familiar with glass windows so I could be wrong.

What kinds of questions should I ask when having my windshield replaced?

I have a crack about 1 inch long and about 1 inch away from the edge of my windshield (one of the worst places to have a crack, so I'm told). I had a guy ';fix'; the crack, but there are still tiny ones down within the glass. He said if it's going to continue to crack, I'll know within the next few weeks. What I'm really irritated about is that I'm told that no glass place will ever replace the windshield with the same quality as the factory seal. Is this true? And what kinds of questions should I ask when I start looking for an auto glass place? I have a 2006 Mazda6. Yeah, I've only had it 14 months. I'm kinda homicidal right now. What kinds of questions should I ask when having my windshield replaced?
That is a myth, Any auto glass replacement shop has to meet certain DOT specs.

Your glass will continue to crack. Did a rock hit it, do you have insurance. pay the deductible for comprehensive which is usually 100 bucks and have the insurance company pay for it this is what insurance is for. It is called an act of God....or deer or rock...Unless you have a crappy insurance comapny like progressive or gecko.....Also all glass companies will warranty the glass to not leak EVER. that is the one to buy. check the leak guarantee. What kinds of questions should I ask when having my windshield replaced?
Ask around as to price and guarantees against leakage etc. Most modern windshield glass is pretty thin, but the good news is that is is safety glass so no worries about pieces falling into your lap. Also ask how long it will take.
Your new windshield will be just fine. Stick with a reputable business that is recommended by your insurance company. You have a deductible, but the insurance will pay the rest of the bill. Decide whether you want the tint to be like your current windshield.
I recently had a new windshield installed in my 2005 Mazda6.They did a great job and the bill was $140,it's not that big a deal.Go worry about something else LOL

  • How do i replace the windshield on my 95 honda civic?

its cracked and im gonna get another windshield from the junkyard todayHow do i replace the windshield on my 95 honda civic?
I'm not sure how you'll manage to get the old windshield cleanly off of an old car. Usually there's waterproof-heat resistant adhesive that keeps the glass tightly onto the surface of the frame. I would recommend buying a new windshield with clean edges.

In either case, you'll need a Honda Civic Service manual, adhesive sealers, slid pliers, and need to use 2 suction handles that press against the windshield and allow you to lift the glass. Hopefully, you're strong enough to lift it steady onto place.

You only get one chance to do this right, so practicing on another car in the junkyard might even be a good idea for starters.

Good luck! How do i replace the windshield on my 95 honda civic?
u sure you have 2 go 2 the junk yard? you can take it to a shop or somethn
You can't do that yourself, if it's not done properly it can be a hazard for you or others.

Pay the money to have it installed properly.
    I agree.

    Pay someone!!
super dangerous to do it yourself
Have a professional do it. Your passenger airbag actually fires off the windshield and if it is not properly installed, will not work as designed.
PLEASE -- PLEASE TAKE THE GOOD ADVICE THAT HAS BEEN GIVEN TO YOU ABOUT TAKING YOUR VEHICLE TO A PROFESSIONAL WINDSHIELD INSTALLATION SHOP!!
when i was a kid i would sit in the seat and push them out with my feet . if it's already cracked you aren't going to hurt it anymore. once you get most of it out you can cut the edge of the sealer more easily. once you have cleaned the lip where you lay the fresh sealer set the new glass in. don't wash for 24 hours and leave your door windows cracked so you don't create pressure when closing the door. you can windshield sealer at most parts houses.

Need to replace a Honda windshield. Are all brands for adhesive/ urethane the same? Recommendations?

Whatever you do, DO NOT use anything that is silicone based! Automotive glass sealant is urethane, which is much stronger than silicone. All automotive glass sealants are not the same as far as the length of time that is required to let them cure after the glass has been installed. The cure times vary from 30 minutes to several hours. Windshield installations in the USA are subject to several Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, or FMVSS. One of those standards deals with the ability of the glass to stay glued to the car in a front end crash. Another standard deals with the same thing, but in a rollover crash. Urethane must be strong enough to meet these federal standards and it must be properly applied. If it is not, the result could be diastrous. With that kind of liability at stake, I highly recommend that you leave urethane windshield installation to the professionals. I know many people may be mechanically inclined, but an improperly prepared windshield/sealant system could cost someone their life!Need to replace a Honda windshield. Are all brands for adhesive/ urethane the same? Recommendations?
no they are not ...go with what the manufacturer recomends. or pay the priceNeed to replace a Honda windshield. Are all brands for adhesive/ urethane the same? Recommendations?
go for the one that honda tells you..
no they are not. first thing though is make sure you clean the sill (where the window sits) really well and remove all of the previous adhesive. If any rust is present fix it now vice fixing it later when your winshield is in your lap. Everyone has a different opinion on what is better to use to reseal, but i would honestly suggest finding something that is easy to use for you. I dont know what your experience level is. I use a cualking tude with a silicone based winshield adhesive whenever i have to replace one of my winshields (to many construction vehicles moving dirt around here).

so my opinion would be a caulking tube with a silicone based winshield adhesive. again my opinion.
unless you have done this before, youre asking for a lot of trouble. least little thing will break the windshield then youre out of that money and have to buy another.

Windshield wipers not working and i replace the fuse?

i got a 90 lx mustang that windshield wipers are not working i replace the fuse and still nothing i need suggestions and how to get them to work thank you.Windshield wipers not working and i replace the fuse?
Well you can actually open the hood and the wiper motor is on the firewall. You can try to remove the terminal plugs, clean them really good and try again( A little fine sand paper on the connectors would be a good place to begin). That would be a great place to start.Windshield wipers not working and i replace the fuse?
You need to find the motor underhood. It should be on the firewall, it may be buried under some stuff. There should be two wires going to it. One power, and one ground. You can check for power and ground on these wires with a test light.

If you have power, and ground then the motor is not working and needs to be replaced. If you are missing either power or ground then you need to find out where power/ground are be disrupted.
Either the motor or the switch, needs replacing.

Ouch, that's going to be 600 or 700 dollars for new glass (and you likely won't find used glass for a 2006).How much does it cost to replace a windshield?
id say around 300 bucks for this one at the most, good luck.
DO NOT GO TO DEALERSHIP!!! Check your area for scrap yards %26amp; auto wrecking yards. A good second hand one (just as good as new) should run you about $200-$270 installed.
don't go to a scrap yard for your windshield (you get what you paid for) get a new one installed correctly it should be aprox, 300.00 good luck.. look for AAA certified shop in your area
Most dealers won't install windshields themselves, they usually have an outside company do it for them.

Best thing to do is get your phone book out and call to several of your local glass companies and price around. Most will even come out to where you're at and install it for you. The locally owned independent places are usually the best deal.

Most of the time, you will find about the same price at a local glass supplier as the local salvage yard, and the local glass supplier will use a brand new windshield without pits, nicks, scratches, etc. It's well worth a little extra to get a new one installed over a used one.
not much depending on how much youre insurance is going to pay and the size of the window

Trading in car - replace windshield?

The car we are trading in has a large (24';) crack across the windshield. Should we replace it before trading the car in? It's about $200 to replace, but I feel like its such an obvious eyesore, it will take away from the price they offer, but I don't want to invest too much into it since we're trading it. Thanks!Trading in car - replace windshield?
Check the bluebook price. If the repairs would mean the difference between one price range and another, by all means get it taken care of before. You want the dealer to take you serious, and some will think that if you neglected your windshield that there may be other hidden blemishes they will have to deal with.Trading in car - replace windshield?
dont bother..the dealer/car lot can replace it for 75 dollars...they really only care about selling u a new car.
No, just let it go, most dealers don't care and wont give you anymore just because you have a new glass installed.
Dont waste your time or money, they have a company come in and do it for dirt cheap.
If insurance doesn't cover it, I would ask the dealer what price they would give you with the cracked windshield. After he gives you the firm price, ask him how much more would you get with a fixed windshield?

Walk away from his price is my advice and say; we will think about it. He will probably say; what do I have to do to make it work for you. (he still has allot of money in the deal)

Generally the dealer is going to give you a really low wholesale price on the car. So another option is you may be able to sell it outright and make a few bucks. Call your bank for the retail/ wholesale/ and loan value, and you will know the ';real value'; of the car and if it is worth putting $200 into the repair. Most dealers have a TON of money in the cars but they will see what they can get from you. After that, they will try to sell you up on options and/or use a high loan rate because of your credit or lack of money knowledge.

Shop. shop, shop is the name of the game and tell each dealer that is the same price I got from the dealer closer to my home. (I use Yahoo Autos and shop all of the dealers on the net.)

So do the homework and keep the cash. My advice for a new car is to try a 15,000 mile 36 month lease with no money down and keep the cash in the bank. Buy the car at the end if you want to own it or give it back to them.
if you have the insurance ';full glass'; then fix it, it wont cost you a penny, and if you don't try , safe-lite auto glass, they are the cheapest (usually) but definitely get it fixed, i don't care what anyone else says, the dealer will deduct for the windshield being cracked at least 200.00 unless your car is older than 5-7 years and have like 150000 miles, at that point it wont matter either way.

    good luck.

i have to add to what i said only because ';Mr. hot wheels is an idiot. if you want to believe all dealers have a ';ton of money'; in there cars you are sadly mistaken unless you looking at a high line (Mercedes Audi BMW Lexus) then no! and if you were looking at these cars the 200.00 wouldn't matter anyway. so do all the shopping you want, but treat the dealer with the same level of respect as you would want to be treated and then, and only then will you get the best deals out there. again good luck and enjoy you car buying experience.

but if you listen to idiots like hot wheels your only asking for trouble and you car buying experience will be a bad one!

    i have to ad this,
i would go and replaced the windshield, once they see they gonna take down more then 200,in trade, also dispense on car make, and dealer.

my car windshield got cracked . somebody said his friend replaced his car windshield for $100, my friend didn't answer where and how he replaced for $100.

I can't find where I can replace for that cost. I called AAA, which is my insurance co. They said I have to pay my $500 comprehensive deductible first.

My car is BMW 323i, 2000yr model, 4door sedan. Please let me know if any body knows. Can I replace windshield for $100?
Your buddy may have had 100 deductible insurance.

In KY, if you have comprehensive insurance, it doesn't matter about the deductible. their is no deductible for auto glass. So whether you have $0 deduct or $1000 deduct, it will still not cost you a penny to have the windshield replaced if it is broken. That was done to keep people from driving with broken glass and interfering with their vision of the road. Can I replace windshield for $100?
Most insurance companies replace cracked windshields with no deductible.
The $100 refers to your friends deductible. He also probably pays and extra $75/yr for the glass coverage. Sometimes it's worth having glass coverage and sometimes not - you just have to estimate the cost of your front windshield multiplied by how often you think you'll need to replace it.

Without glass coverage, the average windshield usually costs about $250 - you'll need to shop around first since there is a variance in what different companies charge.
If you can acquire a windshield from a salvage yard and replace it yourself, yes.

Get one the same way as above and pay someone else to do it, perhaps.

The car is a 2001 Mercury SableHow do I replace the L shaped piece on my windshield washer fluid line?
Well you need to verify if it's leaking from a cracked plastic line on the wiper, or from the hose itself. Sometimes if it's just the hose you can pull it off the plastic pipe and cut it back a bit (the hose) then reinstall it. If it's a cracked plastic pipe in the wiper arm you can probably order that from a dealer or clean it and put some epoxy on the crack.

Good luck. How do I replace the L shaped piece on my windshield washer fluid line?
Sounds like a bad ';tee'; connector; just a hollow tube. A dealer or parts store will have something to fit.
It is called a ';tee'; and if you can usually just pull the flexible hoses off of it, carefully with little twist as you pull. If not, and you have enough excess hose, you can cut the hose just behind the bulge. Any auto parts store can give you a replacement.

How do you replace the windshield hinges on a 87 YJ?

The top four bolts can just be undone with a torx bit. The bottom four are backed up with nuts on inside of the vehicle. You have to get up under the dash and scrape a bunch of putty crap off of them to get a wrench on. After you get the wrench on they can be undone just like the other ones. It would probably be a good idea to take a die to the bolts and a tap to the nuts before putting them back on to facilitate them going back to together. replacing a windshield on any car is no fun at all without the right tools.i would suggest having some one else do it.but if you want to try...remove the rubber molding around the outside edge get a thin piano string or something similar and work that underneath the windshield starting from one of the bottom corners. if possible have someone lightly prying up the windshield while you do this.if and when you get it completely off you have to remove every bit of the leftover rubber underneath.then buy new adhesive and apply it put on the windshield check for leaks and leave it in the sun for a day or two so the adhesive sets. thats it

Ford charges 3.5 standard hours to change the windshield. Use this to determine the labor, in my area they charge around $90 per hour so you would expect to pay around $315.

In summary, expect to pay $600 - $700 at a Ford shop. You could get less if you shop around to an independent but the optical quality of the glass may not be as good.
