Cost to replace 1999 jeep wrangler windshield?

My boyfriend's 1999 jeep wrangler's windshield has a crack in it, must be from the cold. I was wondering how much it would cost to replace the entire windshield. Also, is it a must? The crack is close to the passenger side and it goes from the top of the windshield almost to the bottom. It won't effect the ability to see out of the windshield or driving. I was just wondering if it had to be fixed and if it does, how much it would cost.

I had to replace my windshield because someone broke into my vehicle, and I called around to the junk yards until I found one. Cost me $20 bucks, and I found someone to put it in for $40. I lived in Texas for several years and it was the norm to see vehicles with cracked windshield. The police did not care. Guess it depends on where you live.
