How do you stop a windshield star from spreading?

I've heard that there is a remedy, but I have forgotten it. Is it to put clear nail polish on it or is there something else? I travel 600 miles a day on my job and if I could prevent the stars from running I wouldn't have to replace the windshield so often. Wondering what I do? if you live in australia there is a place called windscreen obrians. otherwise go to a windscreen place while its still freash and i must say i don't know how much it is but you won't neeed a new windscreen they do somthing to it that nearly clears it all. At least over here they do on the add on the tv. I don't know of any home remedies. hope this has helped.
