Why does every rock that hits my windshield cause a crack?

I am going on my third windshield on my 2005 Ford Escape since May, 2007. I have never had to replace a windshield on a car before, even when a rock hit it. The glass place will claim it's just the rock causing it and it's not their fault. Why does every rock that hits my windshield cause a crack?
Big rocks! Why does every rock that hits my windshield cause a crack?
It's partly due to windshield glass being a lot softer than it used to be years ago, thanks to newer federal safety standards. I distinctly recall that the windshields in my old cars (pre-1990) didn't get chipped or scratched nearly as easily as they do now. Nowadays, once a car is only a few years old the glass is usually covered with pits and fine scratches.
You probably getting Chinese windshield every time you replace it.

Request for PPG or Pilkenton. Cost a little bit more, but it's worth it
It's the law of averages, but if your vehicle rides lower to the road, the hits may be more direct than a tractor trailer cab windshield would experience for example. Maybe a plastic shield attached to your front grill will deflect some of the stone hits.
You are following other vehicles too closely. That's why. Stop tailgating and the problem will go away.
Use another windshield repairer. And ask about any kind of protective coating. I don't know if it exists but it can't hurt to ask.
don't get behind big trucks and this will stop
Bad luck.
Make sure you are getting the quality parts and not a different brand. It does cost more, but you should do it anyhow. A lot of times it's ok, but I do notice more cars come back that get the safelite and ppg windshields vs the factory brand windshield.
sounds like you are real lucky, some vehicles just attract rocks, I have a 03 trailblazer and I have had 3 windshields in it too.
when a rock hits your wind shield it is going faster than you.

figure it this way you got the soeed of the rock begin kicked up at you and pluse your speed. if the crak is not that bad and is on the passenger side it will pass inspection.
The rocks like you car.
living and driving in higher elevations will cause the chip to crack more rapidly... if thats not the case then if you get to it will it is still a chip you can do something that might save it
