Is replacing a windshield worth breaking factory seal?

I'm somewhat nervous about replacing my windshield since I've heard that some times windshield repair can be botched and screw the seal around the glass. I don't mind the crack in my windshield since it's close toward the bottom of the glass. Are there any safety issues if I just leave the crack? Is replacing a windshield worth breaking factory seal?
get the glass replaced, I have had 5 or 6 replaced with only 1 giving me a water leak and then they came and took it back out and repaired it.Is replacing a windshield worth breaking factory seal?
each state has its own limits on what is legal for a crack. if it passes inspection? leave it alone. if you have to replace it, take it to a respectable place
As long as you go to a reputable glass shop you will be OK. Just like anything else there is a right way and a wrong way to do it. It is actually a very simple process but it has to be done right. It will be as good as factory then. The old glass has to be cut out. The new adhesive is black and about the consistency of tooth paste and is applied around the perimeter of the glass. When set in place the adhesive cures making a perfect seal.
If the crack doesn't impair your vision, then most states will not require you to replace the windshield. There is no safety hazard involved, as windshields on modern vehicles are two pieces of glass bonded on either side of a tough plastic sheet.

If on the other hand, the crack runs across the driver's field of vision, then you should have the windshield replaced immediately.

Either way, a replacement windshield can be installed just as well as the original windshield was, and in some cases better.
