Best Tucson windshield replacement shop in Arizona?

The last time I had my windshield replaced in Tucson... I used Safelite Auto Glass and I will never use their auto glass shop in Tucson again! Does anyone have a good referral for a local Tucson windshield replacement shop?Best Tucson windshield replacement shop in Arizona?
I know what you mean! I've had the pleasure of dealing with Safelite Auto Glass in Tucson as well and I was very disgruntled to say the least. Anyhow, to answer your question, the last time I got my windshield replaced in Tucson I used http://autoglassreplacementtucson.com.

I believe the gentleman's name was Daniel and the guy totally went out of his way for me. I needed a particular part he didn't have and to prevent any further delay Daniel purchased the part for me and still had the windshield replaced in less than 2 hours.

Sometimes things happen that are out of your control, but it's how people (businesses) turn them around making it their problem and not yours to deliver excellent customer service.

So to answer your question... I would consider the best Tucson windshield replacement shop to be http://autoglassreplacementtucson.com. As a matter of fact... I would feel comfortable referring my own mother to Daniel. I hope this has helped.

How do i remove my windshield wiper arms from my truck? i cant find i screw? i need to replace my wiper motor?

i need help please im 17 and have no cash, its a 2000 dodge ram 1500 4x4 5.9How do i remove my windshield wiper arms from my truck? i cant find i screw? i need to replace my wiper motor?
Lift the wiper arm little bit to release the pressure on the lock located on the base of the arm itself, right side. You need to locate that lock and pull it out while holding the arm.

Good luckHow do i remove my windshield wiper arms from my truck? i cant find i screw? i need to replace my wiper motor?
most setups= at the bottom end of ur wipers there is a cover on it, (it looks like its part of the wiper) pop it off with a flat head, and there should be a 12mm or 14mm nut behind dat, after you remove dat, just left up and wiggling it out, if it dont wanna come out, just give the STUD (not the wiper or window) a few love taps with a hammer or something while lefting the wiper arm. and tada... majek

Can a car windshield be replaced in the rain?

Don't because it will create pockets and could pop out. Your windsheild is part of the saftey sysytem in your car. Use a fast drying urathane. Your drive away time will be faster. But do it when it is dry. Make sure to get all the old urathane off, use a windsheild primer. Can a car windshield be replaced in the rain?
As far as I know you can (because the sealent is petroleum based), But I wouldn't for the simple fact you'll get the interior of your vehicle wet.Can a car windshield be replaced in the rain?
Only if it is indoors but you want the car dry
Sure just work fast between the rain drops
Yes, they have tents to work under. My roommate works for two windshield repair companies. It takes about 40 minutes. Set up, removal, sealing, and replacement. And they come to where you are.

Just got through talking with my roommate about this. They do have tents, but highly recommend that you don't do an install in the rain. Too many issues with it not sealing properly. They only use the tents when the customer demands the install, but they won't guarantee the work.

If the details are not discussed in the repair manual (available at the parts house or book store %26lt; $20.00 or at the library, Then you will need the shop manual for the car available at the dealership.

Another good resource are the assorted ';how-to...'; books about body repair at the local book store.

You will need a couple of specialty tools which are described in detail in most instructions.

This is an operation that is fairly arcane, and not done often by the DIY'er. It might be better to call one of the ';on-site'; glaziers for the installation. They work well, quickly, and come to you at your convenience.

Anyone else see a problem with the Saturn vehicle windshield?

I'm car shopping right now and have fallen in love with the Saturn Ion 2. One big problem though: The windshield looks like I'm looking through a magnifying glass. All images are distorted around the edges and my eyes hurt when I drove it. Has anyone else out there encountered this problem with a Saturn?

Current solution in mind: Purchasing the Ion (great price, great drive) and replacing the windshield (non-Saturn). Does this make any sense to anyone else?

Any opinions/statements would be a great help. ThanksAnyone else see a problem with the Saturn vehicle windshield?
Sounds like an odd solution and one I would check on before purchasing. I did sit in an Ion at the auto show and didn't notice anything wierd.Anyone else see a problem with the Saturn vehicle windshield?
Possible you looked at a bad batch....Try again at a different dealership.
if all the ions you drive are like that, then i would say stay away from them. thats not something small, if you go and replace the windsheild its goin to cost you about 1000 for the glass and 200-300 to get it in. and its going to be saturn glass, where ever you go to get it they will order it from saturn.

unless its just your eyes, ive never heard of car being made with issues like that with the front windshield because that would be a dangerous thing to let pass during development of the car. IMO jsut stay away from saturn
I've owned 2 IONs, an '04 Sedan and now a new '06 Quad Coupe, neither of which had a weird magnifying glass windshield. If you're looking at new IONs then I would go find another one to look at. If its a used one and you could find another with similar options then go for that one because the windshield is nothing to mess with, especially when its your safety thats on the line. My only guess as far as the magnifying glass look goes is that either someone who previously owned the car (if its used) was a heavy smoker and the magnifying glass look is from excessive smoking film on the glass. Its also possible that whatever 14 year old your dealership has cleaning their vehicles may have used an incorrect chemical on the glass, which could also be causing the magnifying glass look. Both of these problems could probably be easily fixed with a good automotive glass cleaner (usually a foam that comes in an aerosol can). Most GM dealerships carry GM's auto glass cleaner or could order it for you if you are really set on the car (if you're buying from a GM or other major brand dealership, they should have some in their service or detail department that they might let you use). Good luck with your purchase, you won't be disappointed in the ION!

  • Where is the cheapest place in santa monica to get my windshield replaced?

i have a 2003 honda accord.Where is the cheapest place in santa monica to get my windshield replaced?
The windshield repair process involves the drilling of tiny holes into the glass and using special glazing techniques, the cracks are filled in with a substance that hardens and stops cracks from spreading. The substance used is a kind of liquid resin, which is then hardened with ultraviolet light, much the same as your dentist uses. Making sure that the repair has the same refractive qualities as the rest of the windshield to minimize distortion, the windshield repairman can cause your windshield檚 crack to disappear. Sometimes, you will be able to notice a slight blur at the sight of the crack, but it should be fairly minimal.Where is the cheapest place in santa monica to get my windshield replaced?

I have a Ford F150 truck 1993,replaced the windshield motor will not stay on unless I hold the button?

I hear a clicking noise under the dash,is there a relay?I have a Ford F150 truck 1993,replaced the windshield motor will not stay on unless I hold the button?
My first thought was regarding a potential problem with the unit being grounded. I don't know what the story with your windshield motor is nor of the 1993 model year specifically... but that's what I would check because it might be vital to the unit working correctly. If it's supposed to be grounded and isn't then it may not function normally. That may not entirely make sense being that it works as long as the button is pushed... but it's worth looking into.

I would also double check the wiring. First to make sure it's all reconnected correctly and also to make sure I didn't accidentally damage any of the wiring itself. After that? It's possible the replacement unit isn't the right one... and also that it is bad out of the box from a parts supplier. I've seen that happen so many times it's not funny. Double check you have the correct wiper motor for your truck (use the part number to double check) and see if there's any bench test for the motor. If there is, it'll most likely be found in the shop manual or a repair manual for your truck. Best wishes!I have a Ford F150 truck 1993,replaced the windshield motor will not stay on unless I hold the button?
Yes there is a wiper control module under the dash.

If the paint was scraped off during a windshield change, it could have a hole rusted through the sheet metal causing the leak.My passenger side on my grand prix is wet and it isnt the heater core its the windshield?
Have you pressure tested the coolant system? Have you been using your ac?
I'd love to know the answer - I have the same problem with my '97 Grand Prix. I was told once that it gets under the seal at the top where the 2 strips on the roof touch the top of the windscreen - but I haven't had a chance to find out for sure.

BTW, you can sometimes just remove the old windshield, clean the old adhesive off and put it back again. It's cheaper, but they won't guaranty that they can get the windscreen out in one piece. It's worth a try (if they can get a replacement quickly if it does break), but be prepared to buy a new screen anyway - just in case. Otherwise, your car will be undrivable until you get a new screen.
You didn't indicate the year of your vehicle but I'll assume it's fairly late-model. Most likely the drain in the bottom of your ';air box'; is plugged. The air box.....or heater plenum ....is the ducting that houses your heater core and allows air to come in the cabin. If the drain is plugged, rain water can back up in the system and leak onto the floor. Take it to a shop and ask them to inspect the drain. They will have to put your car on a lift and look underneath it after determining if that's the problem. Of course a leaking windshield seal is also a possibility. If that's the case it can possibly be resealed without being removed if the leak area can be indentified. If the exact area can not be determined, but it's confirmed to be coming from the windshield, it can be totally removed and and reinstalled with new sealant. Any qualified glass company could do that for you and many will even come to your location to do it. That's your best option if it's the windshield. Having a glass company do it (probably $100-$150) will insure it's done correctly, plus if they break it they should replace it at no extra cost to you. A regular repair shop may or may not honor breakage.
I'm with Nick. My wife's '89 Grand Prix did this on the passenger side. Put the car up on the rack and reach up behind the motor on the firewall just off center to the passenger side, you'll find the drain hole for the A/C condenser housing. Stick your finger in and remove any debris that may be stopping it up.

Where is the best and cheapest place to get a windshield replaced?

Here's what you do. Open the phonebook and call the first national autoglass replacement company and get a quote. Call the next company and see if they will beat the first quote. (they will) Call the next company and do the same. After going through several companys, call Safelite and get them to beat the lowest price then call Triumph and see if they will beat Safelites price. Be sure to tell them it is a Safelite quote. OK, that's the cheapest way to go. For the best quality job contact your local independent glas shop and pay their price. The nationwide autoglass companys are concerned with ONE thing, quantity! If the installer spends longer than 20 or 30 minutes working on your car he is in trouble. So leaky windshield or not at least you'll get it fast.Where is the best and cheapest place to get a windshield replaced?
Well you may try a local junkyard. They may know someone who could install it for you.Where is the best and cheapest place to get a windshield replaced?
call your insurance company. you'll just pay the deductible.
Just go to an auto glass shop. It's worth it.
you should be able to call around for estimates for your area (call before you decide to go through your insurance company - it's a point on your record any time you go through them and the deducable may be more than you'd pay to have it replaced on your own). also make sure that if the windshield cracks they will replace it free - i know it sounds weird, but sometimes they are off just a little and it causes the windshield to crack after a few days. one of the places in san diego made you pay for the installation again! so be sure you don't get charged if that happens. whoever goes through pep boys (i believe it is safe-t-glass) SUCKS! does not matter how inexpensive they are, i can't tell you how many complaints i got on them!
Do a Google for auto glass in your city and call for quotes. Many will come to you and install it right in your drive way or place of business.

My understanding is that the repair kits do not work well and the strength of the repair is never the same as the original. Look in your yellow pages under auto repair--glass. It is a very competitive business and you can find good prices. Not free, but reasonable, sometimes for so little that it's not worth reporting it to your auto insurance bc the total cost is less than the insurance deductible.3 pellet gun shots on windshield best repair kit to use?

new windshield man. repairs are no good
It might be illegal in some states if the crack obstructs the view but no one really enforces this unless you clearly have the money to get it fixed. Windshield repair kits sound like a myth, I see of no way they could do anything more than seal the crack to make sure it doesn't leak. You can't put glass back together. So if it doesn't leak, don't do anything about it.

HELP.How would I replace the motor from the windshield wipers in a 94 Nissan truck?

I am super broke and the motor in the windshield wipers on my 1994 Nissan truck died.It rains a lot where I live so this makes travel incredibly dangerous and impossible at times.I took it to a shop for an estimate and it was around 450 dollars to replace it and get a tune up.I can't afford this and want to try to do it myself.I think the part is around $85 dollars, but where would I find one?I really have no idea. Also is there anywhere I can find directions on how to do this?I would really, really appreciate and help or suggestions.I absolutely have to have transportation for my job thanks so much for reading this and kindest regards to all. Oh p.s I have already heard of rain x(I think that's what its called) that stuff you spray on your windshield that is supposed to make the rain bead up.Some I know one said it was not effective.Have you tried it and does it work?HELP.How would I replace the motor from the windshield wipers in a 94 Nissan truck?
www.autozone.com has an online repair guide that might give you an idea of how to do it or, www.2carpros.com has some good detailed instructions for do it yourself projects.

Can't comment on the Rain-X, never used it but there is a silicone product made for eyeglasses that seems to work well. Could be that Rain-X is the same thing in a bigger bottle.

    Precipitation post windshield replacement?

I had my front windshield replaced at 1030am yesterday morning. (17 Jan).

I do not have a car port or garage so my car doesn't have any way of being covered. I looked outside and saw that it had snowed. Can this be damaging? They told me not to drive it for 2-3 hours after it was replaced, which I didn't. They also told me not to wash it for 4 days. Can the light snow (1/2 inch) be damaging to the replacement? It's been 14 hours.Precipitation post windshield replacement?
Don't worry about nothing. The snow or rain can not damage the windshield after being replaced. The difference between the a car wash and the rain or snow, is that the car wash have high powered jet wash this can damage or remove the moulding (trim around the windshield). Even in the hardest rain or snow storm will not damage the windshield after being replaced. As for ';not to drive it for 2-3 hours'; they should have kept the car in their garage for that time being. We tell all customers they can not drive their car for a few hours, after the windshield have been replaced (if the car is equipped with passenger side air bag) because, it is a safety feature. If you have a passenger side airbag (the one on top of the dashboard) and god forbid you get into a accident, the airbag will explode and reflecting bouncing off the windshield and the windshield will fly off the car if its not cured, causing you to go right Thur the front windshield (if your not wearing a seat belt.

I hope you got a better understanding on windshield replacement. Forgive me my grammar is not the greatest and i hope i made sense.Precipitation post windshield replacement?
No if it were a problem they would have told you to keep it in a garage till everything Had cured. dont worry. There should be some warranty against leaks and other stuff.

Do I need to replace the springs on my windshield wipers?

On a cold morning, I discovered that the windshield wiper arms on my 2001 Honda Odyssey were stiff. I was trying to de-ice the windshield, and I slowly pried the wiper blades away from the windshield (I was concerned about breaking something). No damage occurred, but after putting the wipers back in place, one of the wiper arms did not make good contact with the windshield until it got a little warmer.

Are these springs at the end of their life, or can I just write it all off on the cold? If I need to replace the springs, is this a do-it-yourself job, and where can I buy them?

Thanks for your answers.Do I need to replace the springs on my windshield wipers?
Wd40 the spring hinges and possibly replace the wipers. Should clear itself up.Do I need to replace the springs on my windshield wipers?
When you pulled the blade off the windshield, there were some small pieces of ice still stuck to the edge of the wiper blade, and once you used the wipers, that ice got wiped off and the blade warmed up to conform with the windshield surface again. Winter blades that are completely wrapped in a rubber jacket will keep ice and snow from building up inside the wiper blade and causing problems. The springs in the wiper arms are meant to keep the wiper in contact with the windshield at highway speeds and don't require a lot of tension to do that..... they should be fine.
replace the wiper blades with those made specifically for winter weather
just replace the wiper blades, they might be bad. It could be the cause. Pluse wiper blades arn't very expensive so id try that first. If it don't do anything for you then call honda and ask them. They will be able to tell you what is wrong, they built it they are experts on it. I would think you could do it yourself, go to advanced auto parts, they know almost everything there is to know about cars, they can even look it up on their computer on how to install it. alot of times they will go out side and help you. That would be your best bet, and cheapest route....Advanced autoparts, just ask the guys for help

How urgent is replacing a cracked windshield?

I've had a J shaped crack in the top center of my windshield for about 3 months now. After going through a car wash, it extended to about half way to the passengers side. It appears to be hairline. Will it be ok for another 2 weeks and maybe 300 miles... I'm going on a trip tomorrow? How urgent is replacing a cracked windshield?
You are rolling the dice with your safety and the safety of any passengers riding with you.

The design of the safety features on autos is based on the assumption the the windshield has no flaws. That's why a crack will not pass inspection.

With respect to safety, you might as well begin your trip with breaks that might only work part of the time and can't be counted on to prevent or avoid an accident. How urgent is replacing a cracked windshield?
Replace it before the trip. Take no chances.
A crack like that, I would never trust for any amount of time.

You need to go somewhere and see if they can at least keep it from spreading further. At some point the whole windshield could shatter and fall int on you while you are on your trip.

It needs to be replaced immediately, but there is plenty that can be done with windshields if you cant afford a new one.
hairline crack i wont worry too much ,however

u can get it fix for cheap u dont have to get it

    changed its a fast fix.
the windscreen is designed to withstand heavy imapct from large objects, such as people/ animals with a crack the structure is compromised, meaning if anything that large hits it, the performance is severly diminished...in laymans terms, the whole screen will come apart in your face
You should try to get it fixed. That is a major saftey problem. At this point I'm sure it can't be repaired, you will have to replace the window. Normally car glass companies can fix a windshield pretty quick. I even know someone that had it done while they were at work. They just called and the company came out and fixed it in the parking lot.
Nobody can predict when that thing will just go, you could hit a bump and it could go.

Not at this point. Once the crack spreads out of the chip, you have two options: (1) live with the crack or (2) replace the windshield.

Next time remember to have the chip (bullseye) fixed as soon as possible to prevent a crack from forming. How do you make a windshield crack on your car, not noticeable?
replace it, safety issue-could get ticket/injury.
give it a few days, hit a bump the wrong way or have the temp change and the crack will expand the entire width of the windshield.just replace the glass and get it over with.
call out an Autoglass repairer who could best advise whether he can repair it with the solution they use or whether it is beyond that and needs replacing
What you see is air. Windshields are made in 3 layers. Top layer is glass, second layer is a plastic also the safety part of the glass and the third layers is glass again. What you see is air between the first layer and second layer. You can get a resin put into the glass by a glass company and your winshield will be just fine. However you can not completly cover up the bullseye. The glass will meet all safety standards with the resin. Just call a glass company to have them fill with resin. It will not crack if the resin is put in the windshield correctly. They can drill at the end of the crack and fill with resin.
Is there any windshield crack repair guys in your town? we have them here and they work miracles. They shoot some kind of glue into the cracks to keep them from splitting more, and it also makes the crack seem shorter or smaller. In AZ it's a big issue on cracked windshields and the heat.
once it's cracked and running like that there is no way to fix it other than replacing the windshield.

How do I get my windshield replaced using my insurance?

First you read your policy (or contact your agent) to see if you have coverage for windshield replacement, and if you do, what deductible there is.

Then you call a place that does windshield replacement and tell them you have insurance coverage, they will take it from there.

If you don't have coverage, as above but you pay out of pocket. How do I get my windshield replaced using my insurance?
Call your agent and they'll tell you where to take it.How do I get my windshield replaced using my insurance?
call your insurance company have them go over your policy and see what it will cover, they will have you get an estimate if they like the estimate they will send you or the auto body shop a check..........
YOU WILL NEED TO CONTACT THEM AND THEY WILL NEED TO SEE THE WINDSHIELD AND IF THEY OKAY IT THEY WILL SEND YOU TO A REPAIR FACILITY AND YOU WILL PAY YOUR DEDUCTIBLE.

    GOOD LUCK
Generally, the cost is less than your deductable. If you're one of the lucky ones with a real low deductable, call your insurance agent and let him/her know. They'll get the ball rolling.

    Good luck!

A rock hit my windshield and I can't afford to replace it. Is there any thing I can do?

If you have a decent insurance company, they will replace front windshields for free. Call them.A rock hit my windshield and I can't afford to replace it. Is there any thing I can do?
MASKING TAPEA rock hit my windshield and I can't afford to replace it. Is there any thing I can do?
You can put toothpaste on the crack to stop it from spreadin, and try not to use your heater in the car because it causes it to spread and turn into a crack. They also have an ointment kind of thing at places like wal mart that stop spreading and cracking.
There's a low cost procedure...I think they inject resin into the hole and it involves UV light. Most auto glass places will do it.
If I were you I would find the nearest Pick and Pull (it is the cheapest place to find car parts) they are used but it still works.
If you have insurance (comprehension), check deductible, you can put it through comprehension. However, if insurance is not the answer, then you can put clear nail polish on the crack to prevent it spread in for awhile. You will eventually have to replace the windshield. You could look into junk yards to see if they have your type of windshield. You can usually get a very cheap price for a replacement.
there is a 25.00 procedure that most window places can perform were they will inject a resin (or a glue) into the crack u will still see the crack or chip but it will keep it from cracking all the way across ( not in some states a crack in the windshield is a safety violation and cause your car to fail safety checks or could be stopped and ticketed)
I had this problem too. I took a X-ACTO KNIFE cut the safety film on the window and (make sure the window is warm) then put on SUPER GLUE at the end of the crack so it wouldn't crack anymore. Hope this helps

How much would replacing a windshield and brakes be?

I'm looking at this car on kijiji and I would just like to know if it is worth $300.00, would I be putting more money into the car if I bought it?How much would replacing a windshield and brakes be?
well brakes u COULD put on by urself.....if u do then the brakes would be about 125$ and the windshield u would want a mechanic to do....and that will probly cost 400-500$....depending on the mechanic.....if u got the mechanic to to both..it would all together be about....800-1,000$......at MOST...depending on mechanic....God Bless----NickHow much would replacing a windshield and brakes be?
A $300 car most likely has a quite a few issues, that is really low price. The windshield will not cost more than about $250 installed for most cars. I am assuming the car you are looking at is not BMW, Cadillac, or any other luxury brand with a special windshield. So going from that, $250 or less depending on the car, each make and model will be different. Brakes, if it's just linings, figure about about $100-$150 per axle, installed, depending on the car and work needed. I would shy away from a $300 car though, cars that cheap usually need a lot of work. Makes for a good mechanic's special car.

My Windshield wipers don't work, can anyone help or give advice in what I should do?

I left my car overnight 2 nights at an airport in kansas city a couple weeks ago. When I got back the car was covered in snow and then when i got all of the snow off, the windshield wipers, front or back, wouldn't work. I have let them defrost a bit for a few weeks but they still don't work. Should I go and replace the windshield wipers? Or is it something different? My Windshield wipers don't work, can anyone help or give advice in what I should do?
Did you try unsticking them from the windshield? Like physically lifting them up off the window? This is always a quick fix for when they are actually frozen to your window. The fact that you tried over a couple weeks makes me think that's not the case.

You could try looking for which fuse your wipers work on. It could be blown, and fixing it is a simple matter of locating the correct fuse (online or your car manual) and then replacing it if is in fact blown (you can tell by looking at the little wire inside the fuse - if it's a broken wire than the fuse is broken).

After that you should look into it being some type of electrical/mechanical problem.

Replacing the actual wiper blades would likely do nothing. If just those need replacing it is because they aren't doing an effective job of wiping away the rain.

So check the fuse.My Windshield wipers don't work, can anyone help or give advice in what I should do?
Well, for starters don't drive in the rain.

Will insurance company raise premium for having windshield replaced.?

Anybody have windshield replaced then have rates go upWill insurance company raise premium for having windshield replaced.?
Oh lord, NO. Glass breakage in Florida is paid out through Comprehensive and so long as you don't have an excessive amount of comprehensive claims in a three year period (rule of thumb - more then three in three with my company), you don't have to worry about your policy at all. Will insurance company raise premium for having windshield replaced.?
    not sure
if you file enough claims your insurance will consider you a higher risk and yes increase your premiums.
Depends on the company and how many claims you have made.
I have State Farm (different state) and windshields are covered under comprehensive. Never had my rate go up and I've had 3 windshields on the car I'm currently driving (damn rocks) in the past 10 years.

    None of the above...

It depends on the adhesive used and what the conditions are at the time. Factors such as temperature and humidity count, as does whether or not the urethane is a specialty product or not. Often times, the SDAT (Safe Drive Away Time) is about an hour. A good glass shop will tell you about SDAT when you make your appointment. If you ask them what the ';S-D-A-T'; will be, and the person on the phone cannot answer your question, it's time to find a new glass shop!

Check out this blog post for a video on windshield safety: http://www.teleglass.com/auto-glass-blog
just leave it a few hours, 2 - 3 and it will be fine, just needs the adhesive to dry.
It's good to go as soon as it's installed. You can go as fast as you want and you can go anywhere you want.
When u take it to a shop and they replace it, there is no waiting for it to dry, etc. It's done, you pay and go.
you can drive the same day as soon as they fix it.

  • When you pay someone to have your windshield replaced....?

do they find the windshield and order it, or do they make it themselves? my boyfriend has an old fiat and its super hard to find a new windshield (its cracked at least 10 inches all the way through the glass) and i was wondering...if i pay someone to replace it, will they find one or make it themselves?

thanks for all the helpWhen you pay someone to have your windshield replaced....?
They will probably find one. My ex used to work in a warehouse that delivered the windshields to the replacement companies (who actually deliver and install them to you).

They did not make them either, however. They were manufactured somewhere else then delivered to his warehouse. When you pay someone to have your windshield replaced....?
they have dealerships that supplie that company with in this case windsheilds they take your order and see if they have any in stock and if they dony they will get one from a supplier. if u cant find a wind sheild that fits that window u could always try using kijiji or ebay
They will order one for it. It may take a few days to get one, but they cannot make it as windshields must be made to exact specs for the particular car.
the autoglass shops buy them from big suppliers/go to auto glass store and see
they usually find and order the exact windsheild for that car

however im sure if they had to they could use another windshield
They would go and find one. If they can't find one they will say that they can't find one and can't do the job.

There is one place I've ever seen that manufacturer and installs. Most manufacturers just sells and don't deal with the general public.
for a new windshield a good place to find it would be a well known co. that makes them Saf-T-Glass they will find one for you when u order it through them with them doing the job

How much should I pay to have my windshield replaced?

On a 2002 volkswagen new beetle. How much should I pay to have my windshield replaced?
It will depend upon a variety of factors: the labour rate where you are, the type of glass, the options in the car, and the brand of windshield your purchasing.

In general, you're best served by having either a OEM windshield (original equipment manufacturer supplied by VW) or a known quality windshield from a USA manufacturer of glass. USA glass companies like: LOF (Libby Owens Ford), PPG (Pittsburg Paint/Glass), Guardian, Carlite or the like. The reason for this is that the glass is made to the same standard as the original glass that came with the car.

I've seen windshields from Brazil, India, China, Peru, Mexico and even Vietnam; most of this glass is of poor quality and some it won't meet DOT standards (Department of Transportantion) safety regulations. Yes, its cheap, but it can be poor fitting, have optical distortion issues or safety issues in a cash.

In the San Francisco area (labour is amoung the highest in the country!), you can expect to spend as little as $250 for a windshield installed to as much as $550, depending upon the glass and labour rate.

Its great to shop around; be sure of what you're getting and always be sure that it has an installation warranty of at least 1 year. Right now, there isn't much rain in most places; you won't know if the replacement windshield will leak until your in a huge downpour....

Replacing the windshield washer resevoir on a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up?

I need to know what has to be removed to get to the resevoir. It is located underneath the battery holder.Replacing the windshield washer resevoir on a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up?
You will need 8mm -15mm sockets and possibly a phillips screw driver

Disconnect your battery and remove it,

then grab a 14mm socket,(I think dont hold me to that one) and pull out your battery tray.

The resovoir is either held in by a couple (phillips) sheet metal screws or a couple of metric metal screws(10mm or 13mm)

It's a pretty easy swap and if you careful and patient you should have no problems.

One more tip check your battery tray for corrosion and if you see some hit it with a wire brush and shoot some rust inhibiting black (rust-o-leum) paint before putting it back.

Hope this helps, (and I was right about the sizes, LOL)

You HAVE to pay the first $500.00 no matter what so shop around and tell the glass installers you want their insurance price when they install your new unit. Some windsheilds cost over $900.00 while many are under $200.00. Depends on make and model vehicle.

My Mercedes c320 windshield wipers stop above where they should be when turned off. How do I adjust them?

Yes they can. But I would take the car back to the dealer that last worked on the wipers. It`s not your place to be trying to adjust your wipers because they are not smart enough to properly replace the blades. It may require a special tool to remove the arms and that is what it sounds lie they done. Most blades can be replaced with out removing the arms. So I have to question why they did it in the first place.

Some of the arms are push on and some are bolt on. To properly adjust them first remove both arms. Then with your ignition on engine off, turn your wipers on and let them cycle a couple times, then turn them off with the wiper switch. Then turn off your ignition. What this does is set your wiper transmission in the proper location. Now take you wiper arms and locate them where they should be with the wipers off when your car was new. Waa Laaa.

But seriously I would make the people who done the job re do their work.

Weather stripping around front windshield popped out of place after windshield replacement?

I had the windshield replaced on my '06 Forester by safe lite about 3 weeks ago. Everything seemed fine until yesterday. The weather stripping on the passenger's side of the car came loose and was flapping in the wind. I was only going 70mph on the highway. I stuck it back in and now it makes a whistling sound. They are coming back tomorrow morning to fix it (it is warrantied by them), but it is going to rain tonight (figures since we've been in this big long drought in NEPA) and I am worried that rain will get into places where it shouldn't. Also, I have a ton of errands to run and I'm afraid that the windshield now has nothing holding it in from the front, so I'm not going to go driving unless it is completely safe. I know the actual windshield itself is sealed against the car, but does the weather stripping play a part too? The guy on the phone said it was just cosmetic, but I want to make sure this won't cause bigger problems...Weather stripping around front windshield popped out of place after windshield replacement?
The guy on the phone is right the moulding is just cosmetic design. The moulding is only there to cover the gap in the A pillar location. Basically you could drive without the top or side moulding and the rain will have no effect on the glass or leakage. The bond is from the glass and the adhesive where it's applied on the pinch weld. Don't worry at all it's going to be all fine, even in the rain.Weather stripping around front windshield popped out of place after windshield replacement?
make them fix it that guy is bs'ing you saying its just cosmetic its their for a reason not to look pretty
If you suffer any damage they are libel. But to be sure put some plastic over it!
this most likely the the out er seal that should not have come out

and if it were to rain would likely leak.you can do you errands because the window is glued in. i would have them replace with new rubber seal and its better to have it done at the shop as they will install it correctly..
don't lose any sleep over it, safelight is a very good company and they will make it right and if your worried about water I would just throw some plastic over the windshield and forget it, a little water won't hurt anything if they are going to fix it tomorrow.

How can I reduce wind noise from new windshield?

I replaced the windshield on my BMW 325 due to pitting with Safelite. Their brand was $400 and a genuine BMW was $600. I went with their brand.

At speeds over 60, it sounds like it's real gusty outside even when there is no wind.

Is the shape of the Safelight windshield different than the original? How can I reduce wind noise from new windshield?
    Hi Keith,

As previous answers have stated one possible cause is the screen has not been bonded in correctly and there is a gap in the bonding somewhere.

Other possible causes are the top seal sitting incorrectly (would require screen removing and refitting to replace) and also (depending on how old your 3 Series is) the side trims for the screen on the outside require replacing or the clips replacing.

If your 3 series is of the latest model type I would also check if your defogging sensor works as these should be replaced with a new screen but never seem to be done by non BMW repair shops. If only I had a pound for everyone I have seen.

A BMW dealer would replace all the trims/ clips/ seals and fogging sensor, touch in any paint chips under the glass, not to mention a fitment and parts warranty. Plus a genuine screen which plays a major roll in the vehicles structure strength.

I guess you get what you pay for in the end.

If this was my car I would return to the fitters and insist they pay for a replacement screen at a BMW dealer.

Good luck with getting it sorted out.

PythHow can I reduce wind noise from new windshield?
They have messed up while installing the screen.

Bmw's use bonded screens and need a constant line of bonding sealer right the way around the screen in order to stop wind noise and moisture from entering into the cabin.

The screen itself shouldn't matter if it is BMW's or not, they all have to meet a certain standard in order for it to be road legal.

Also, when you get the guys back, make sure you watch them do the job, they often have a habit of scratching the metal work when cheese wiring the screens out, this will help avoid possible rust in the future.
Its installed incorrectly, they probably didn't glue the seal on properly and there is some air leaking through making the wind noise at higher speeds. Go back and tell them to re-install the seal because you're getting wind noise. They should do it for free since its their fault its messed up. Best of luck.
Yeah I've had the same problem with mine too. Over on the driver's side, they installed mine incorrectly when it cracked, so now it always makes that noise. You could use some sort of caulking, as long as you knew that it'd come off without any problems afterwards.

I'd go to Home Depot and ask them. They're very knowledgable when it comes to these things.
    improperly installed im afraid.
maybe. might be a leak in the seal.

How long is it safe to drive with a fracture crack on my car windshield?

A big rock hit my car windshield about couple months ago while I was driving on the highway. I did not notice a fracture crack about 1 inch until three days ago. During the time I noticed the crack on my window until I got home (approximately 1/2 hour), the crack lengthened to about 1 foot. I also wondering what other options I have besides replacing my windshield. How long is it safe to drive with a fracture crack on my car windshield?
It's not safe, your windshield is weakened. Most insurance companies pay for it 100% with no paperwork. Just stop by a windshield replacement shop. How long is it safe to drive with a fracture crack on my car windshield?
If your state does yearly inspection . When you take your car to be inspected you will be informed then. I also think you have the answer to how safe your windshield is by just looking at it. Use your own judgment also
it's not safe at all and it's illegal. no other options. I've seen people try to use alternate materials but that's worse than just leaving it.
You must immediately replace your windshield. If you don't it'll be like a ticking time bomb. It's durability has weakened and soon enough when you're driving it will break apart from the car. When that happens you'll be devastated. I guess that probably on the next 1 to 5 times you drive on the highway. The wind resistance is probably poor so during the highway drive, your windshield cracks from the overwhelming pressure. But my point is REPLACE IMMEDIATELY FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY.
In many states it illegal to drive with a cracked or broken windshield. If this happens again, don't wait to long. Can place a piece of clear tape over a small crack on outside of the windshield. This does work. On something large. Out of luck. Your insurance should be informed and should pay part or all of the fix.
small cracks can be filled by specialist with resin to strengthen the crack. and its as good as new. Every crack is a weak spot and its very serious if its growing in size. Hot and cold weather will also affect it. I'd get the windshield exchangesd asap before it blows up in your face on the highway.

PS. even if glass doesn't rain down on you due the glass being safety glass..think a minute about the shock moment when it breaks and your reaction to it while driving on a busy highway..... think about the others around you!
I think there is a little too much drama about a crack in a windshield. I don't think enough people here have really seen how tough they really are. I drove my car with a crack in my windshield for many years and never had it explode or disintegrate, even after getting into a few fender-benders. I have also worked in a body shop removing and replacing windshields.

Windshields are laminated glass with a bonded plastic layer actually holding two sheets of glass together. They are very strongly built so that in the event of a crack, they won't shatter completely and spray the occupants of a vehicle with glass.

It is very common that when the outside layer of glass develops a crack from a flying rock, the inside layer is still usually intact and the crack can be repaired. While it is true that some states require cracked windshields to be repaired by law, it doesn't necessarily mean replacement.

Windshields that are severely damaged must be replaced of course. The make/model of your vehicle depends on the cost of replacement. If you do, take it to a reputable shop because a brand-new, but leaking, windshield is almost worse than a cracked, but still watertight one.

However, they said that to 'do it right' it would require an OEM windshield molding, which from Toyota is about $300. Though this is not an 'upsell' to them, as they cannot offer the OEM molding, I am suspicious. I would think that an aftermarket molding would be just as effective and attractive - and only about $30-$50. Any ideas?Does a '94 Toyota pickup require an OEM windshield molding?
    For sure $300 sounds exaggerated.

Tell me how to find the windshield in auto glass?

Hi friends can anyone tell me how to find the windshield in auto glass and also tell me what procedure to replace those windshield from auto glassTell me how to find the windshield in auto glass?
If the glass moves then it is loose and must be removed and re-installed. This is the worst possible result and the easiest to diagnose... Spray glass cleaner over the outside of the windshield where you suspect the air leak is.... The transmitter is turned on then placed on the dashboard. Run the receiver on the outside edge of the glass. If the receiver sounds a steady tone, you've found your leak....

Go to a Autozone store and find the Rear view mirror glue. Then look on the package for a phne # and call them to find out what breaks down that glue. I have yanked real hard and had a success rate of about 85%.How do you remove the rear view mirror from the windshield?
find some expoxy, or mirror glue. glue the gray metal piece to the windshield then tape it to the windshield, so that it wont slide out of place. wait until the next day, then attach the mirror. rounded part of the gray piece points upwards.

Guys is there any possible way to get your car windshield fixed instead of replacing the whole windshield?

I think that this is specialized glass because it does not crack too easly and when the rock hit the car windshield, the car windhield did not shadder, it just had a hole engraved in it.

If you can get this fixed without changing the entire windshield, approximatley how much would it be

if you had to get the windshield replaced about how much would this be.

Look for glass repair. There are allot of people that fix problems just like yours. Usually its around 25 to 30 bucks and you got to do it soon before it gets to much dirt in it.Guys is there any possible way to get your car windshield fixed instead of replacing the whole windshield?
i own a shop and as long as its doesn't have a crack going in any direction in the glass they can repair it,but if its started to crack there's very little they can do with it,good luck with it.
There are repair shops that will repair the glass. Look in the yellow pages. Some states, like KY has zero deductible for auto glass. So no matter what deductible you have on your insurance, it will still cost you nothing to get it replaced.

Check with your insurnace commpany to see what the rule is in your state. good luck.
Glass repair can be done for stone chips and short cracks, under $50, the exact amount depends on the size of the repair and whether their is more than one spot. They say they can now repair cracks up to 6 inches. A replacement windshield can be anywhere fro $200 on up. My old car had an $850 windshield, not incuding labour. It is a good idea to get glass insurance if you don't have a low comprehensive deductible on your car.
safelite replaced my windshield for $300.00.. they told me if the crack was bigger then a dollar bill the windsheild had to be replaced .. they even came out to my place of work to do it
i don't think that it is specialized glass, manufactures make windshields pretty shatter resistant and they are designed to absorb quite a bit of punishment. If you have a stone chip in the windshield, you can fill it by going to an auto parts store and getting a Windshield Repair kit.

Most people do not realize this.
It depends on the vehicle. I had to replace the windshield in my chevy blazer and it only came to about $120 which is really not that bad.
Go to the right guy and it'll only cost $200. If you don't shop around and bargain with the shop you'll pay $3-400.

Some vehicles are cheaper. Like the Chevy Blazer listed above. But you can do it yourself with a friend and some special tools and sealant.

Windshield are not a thing you really....re-use. You can usually find a place to replace yours for $100 or less, it makes no sense to buy a parts vehicle mainly for the windshield. If you try to, you are gonna break it getting it out.

How to replace the windshield washer motor on a '99 Grand Cherokee, 4.0L engine?

%26gt; if it's the kind where the motor is on the bottom of the reservoir, is it an easy replace?

%26gt; would I be better off just replacing the whole assembly?

%26gt; if I replace the whole unit, does it have to be brand-new, or am I likely to find a good one in a junkyard?

Hoping for some good advice or good links. The washer motor should be at the bottom of the reservoir, or sitting somewhere beside the reservoir, close to the bottom of the tank. It is a lot easier to replace the entire washer, only a couple of bolts holding it in, plus the clamps for the intake and output washer hoses. Less than a 30 minute job, and the washer motor should be less than $30.

How do I fix a chip in my windshield?

I've got a chip in my windshield that's just a little over a quarter of an inch in length on bottom driver's side. How do I fix that without having to spend loads of money on getting it fixed or having my whole windshield replaced? How do I fix a chip in my windshield?
Your local auto parts store should carry whats called a ';star-repair kit'; or ';windshield repair'; It pulls the air out of the chip and injects a clear glue in creating a weather-proof and invisible repair. They work GREAT!How do I fix a chip in my windshield?
Most areas have small companies that specialize in this type of repair for pretty cheap and some auto glass shops also do this kind of work, drop by one and get an estimate. I would guess no more than about thirty dollars. I have seen in parts stores a chip repair kit, but I do not know how well they work and personally would rather have someone do it for me, and I am a certified auto technician.
There is not a easy, do it yourself method that works. I have seen windshield repair kits at O'Reily I think, but they cost like 14 bucks, and probably don't work very well...The problem is that the crack needs to be drilled and glued. You have to drill the end of the crack to stop it from spreading, and then an epoxy is added and hardened under an ultraviolet light. What you really need to watch out for is getting water into the crack and letting the car sit in freezing weather, it doesnt happen all the time, but that is a sure fire recipe for a crack to grow!

Call your insurance company if you have full coverage, they may pay to have a NOVUS repair done, and some insurance will actually pay for a new windshield if it cracks all the way across. but usually the NOVUS repair only costs 25 bucks, depending on who's doing it. And sometimes you can get the guys to do it on the side.
Auto glass shops can do that. I think they all use the Novus system, which can do a very good repair that is guaranteed for the life of the windshield not to spread. The last time I paid for a chip repair it was $80 (prices vary and we are an expensive area) but if you have comprehensive overage on the car that often covers chip repair. Either way be sure to get it fixed, and soon, or you can count on paying for windshield replacement.
yes they sell kits at auto parts stores for $10 they work good Ive used them before it takes about an hour but its not an hour of work about 10 minutes of work 50 minutes of drying just do it on a sunny day. good luck

1964 Ford Falcon windshield and headliner replace?

    Hello!

I recently purchased a 1964 Ford Falcon Futura for my first car and it is in beautiful condition for the age and for the price. The only two problems that I have is that the windshield has a crack in it and the headliner needs to be replaced. I have a new windshield and a new headliner but don't know of any places in Eugene/Springfield Oregon area that can replace both of these items. I have no idea how to do this and i wanted it professionally done anyways. Are there any places that anyone might know of for this? Please?

SORRY BUT THE ONLY WAY IS TO CHANGE THE WINDOW
There are products for windshield repair in auto parts stores, BUT they are only for very small nicks or cracks and they are hard to use. Not a good idea.

Also, you can take a car to ';windshield repair places.'; They do a great job, but, again, if the crack is not very long.

I just did a repair on my car at a place like this (there was a nick from a small rock and a crack about 2 inches long.) You cannot see anything now. And they give 10 year warranty. This was a $60 job (much less than replacing windshield.)

Take your car to such a place and they'll tell you if it can be fixed (if it's too long, they'll not do it.).
sorry but once it cracks there is no way to repair it,if it was only a chip ,it could be repaired, but once it starts to crack there isn't anything that can be done other than replace it,been there and done it,good luck with it.

Do I have to pay for a neighbors windshield even though her bid is ridiculously high?

I need to replace a neighbors windshield but the bid she turned in to the police is over $1200. I got 4 bids and they ranged in price from $135-$700! Do I have any say in the amount I pay her? She has been known to cheat people out of money before...Do I have to pay for a neighbors windshield even though her bid is ridiculously high?
I think it is reasonable for you to request (very politely and in writing) that your neighbor obtain at least two more bids. It is not necessarily reasonable to only have one bid . . . or to only submit the bid of the highest amount. Of the three bids, it is appropriate for you to pay the lowest amount. BUT you don't get to decide which places she visits to get those estimates - so you can't require her to go to the place that only charges the $135.Do I have to pay for a neighbors windshield even though her bid is ridiculously high?
    doubtful
No, she's trying to rip you off. I just had mine replaced and it was only 250.
If you have multiple reputable bids, and I don't think $135 is reputable for a windshield, you can contest the amount. You're obligated to pay for the windshield, you're not obligated to bend over and take one for the cause.
Simple, you agree that you should replace the windscreen, excuse me windshield, ask her to supply the details of her insurance company, including phone number/e-mail address.

Tell her you shall use the repair company the insurance company would use. See her face/expression. One thought, is she insured ? Not that negates you from ';making good'; the damage

The insurance company will use a moderately price repair agency, so your quotes will be in th same ball park.

There is absolutely no way she can complain as to your actions, because you are showing ';willingness'; to repair the damage.

    Good luck in your endeavours.
She has the right to charge you a reasonable amount. If you think it's unreasonable, you can go to court and challenge it. However, judges tend to side with the property owner in such cases. Maybe you can try negotiating.
Id suggest calling the place she went to yourself and asking how much a windshield is for her particular car (say its your own car. dont give details of your circumstance). I have never heard of a windshield costing that much. Get those 4 bids in writing then offer her the medium (or the high if you want to be done with it). If she refuses then she will probably have to take you to small claims court to which she will have to show her proof that it will cost $1200. With the bids you have, no judge is going to make you pay the $1200.

How much does it cost to place a windshield, replace and install driver air bags and repair an axle or frame?

Yesterday I got in a car accident from sliding on ice. My car slid and hit the curb and my front driver wheel poped. The wheel frame is ok, but i think the axle is damaged. Both the driver and front passenger airbags delployed, and the passenger airbag damaged my windshield. How much much would all of this cost to get repaired? My car is a 1999 chevrolet cavalier z40, so its fairly old. Is it worth getting all the repairs or just total the car? Thanks for the advice... and btw my insurance doesn't cover anything since I just have liability. How much does it cost to place a windshield, replace and install driver air bags and repair an axle or frame?
The cars mileage and condition will play a big factor in your decision here. However, if you

are sure that the frame is not bent by a reputable body shop mechanic or front end specialist.

it may not be as costly as you may feel it is. You can try pricing replacement air bags at

a salvage yard : car-parts.com . The windshield will probably cost around $ 150.00. The

front axle should'nt be too expensive $ 150.00 installed ( a ballpark ), you probably need

a lower control arm : car-parts.com. and then a tire %26amp; rim. I would guesstimate that you

could get all this done for under $ 1000.00 easy. The airbag replacement is the $$$'s issue.

If it's a been a good , reliable vehicle and you've been keeping up with servicing the engine,

It may be worth repairing rather than taking this somewhat small collision as a loss.

Just my opinion on this one.How much does it cost to place a windshield, replace and install driver air bags and repair an axle or frame?
good possibility that the frame is ok. the air bag is what has totaled the vehicle. they are expensive. the axle may have taken quite a bit of the impact. tire and axle about 250,wind shield about 150-200, air bag, it's been awhile but they run about 12-2500. if the vehicle drives kind of funny after this then I would suspect the frame to be bent,or rather the sub frame to be knocked out of square.
There are specific items that are required replacement items when a deployment occurs or when an airbag light comes on...and there are some items that are ';check only';. Check out the websites below for the EXACT answers to your questions including fault code charts and reset information. This site tells you exactly what needs to be replaced and how to access them (seat belts %26amp; all) on over 3500 cars. It's a pay site ($14.95 / day), but it's little money well spent to get the correct answers and to see exactly what you're after...it uses pictures, not text, so you can see what you檙e looking for.

This is the same website insurance companies and body shops use to determine what needs to be replaced.

Good Luck...it's not too bad of a job %26amp; if your state allows it, used parts or parts from ebay should be ok

Also, there's a page in this site that tells you which cars need a scan tool to reset the system and which ones can be done without it.

I was told today that I have to replace my windshield but don't have the money to do so, right now.I have a rock chip on my windshield that has continue to spread. Any suggestions so it doesn't spread anymore?
Don't worry, you don't have to replace your windshield right now. the windshield is made of two panes of glass and the rock penetrated through the first pane of glass. what you need to do is where it's spreading out from take a razor blade and cut into the glass so you can feel it with your finger nail and make a perfect T. this will stop the spreading until you can come up with the money to replace your windshield.I have a rock chip on my windshield that has continue to spread. Any suggestions so it doesn't spread anymore?
It will continue to spread until it reaches the edge of the glass. There's nothing you can do except replace the windshield.

definitely not a razor blade it will split, a heat gun will work as described in another answer but may melt either the sticker or windshield, i have found that a good hairdryer works well for almost any sticker by warming up the glue behind it and it wont get hot enough to melt it. get it good and hot first then peel up the edge and peel it while still heating it a t same time, this is not as good on decals like tank badges though they need loads of heat for it to work

Put clear 3M packing tape over the entire sticker if you are going to scrape it off with a blade. As you scrape keep the tape/sticker tight and just go slowly

Which is the best windshield for replacement? What is the difference between OEM and aftermarket glass?

I'm trying to replace a broken windshield on my car. And I got quotes from $95 to $190. Some gives Life-time warranty on glass, others on labour.. Some say they use OEM glass others say they use aftermarket glass. Are aftermarket glass bad? How do you distinguish between OEM and aftermarket glass? And what's the catch in the huge price difference?Which is the best windshield for replacement? What is the difference between OEM and aftermarket glass?
On a new car, every part comes from the original equipment manufacturer (the OEM), including the windshield. For windshield replacement, you have the option to select a replacement made by a company that manufactures OEM windshields, such as PPG, or glass made from non-OEM manufacturers (';aftermarket glass';). Both OEM and aftermarket glass must comply with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, but ?there are two important OEM benefits:

An OEM replacement windshield is produced from original equipment-style tooling. This type of windshield will have the appearance of your car's original windshield and will fit properly in the window frame making noise and leakage problems much less likely.

OEM glass manufacturers partner with automobile producers to enhance overall functionality and improved performance. Because of their close work with carmakers, OEM manufacturers have a greater knowledge of the engineering demands a car can place on the windshield and their replacement windshields are made using the same quality assurance systems as for new vehicles.

Safety glass is used in all automobile glass. It is manufactured to reduce the likelihood of injury, if it breaks. There are two different types: laminated glass and tempered glass.

Windshields are made from a lamination process. A windshield actually consists of two pieces of glass, bonded together by a vinyl inter-layer. This vinyl layer cushions your head during impact. If a windshield breaks during impact, the broken pieces will generally adhere to the plastic lining.

Side and rear windows consist of tempered glass, which is produced by heating the glass to more than 1,100掳F and then rapidly cooling it. This results in the outside surfaces of the glass becoming harder than the center of glass and, therefore, is stronger than regular glass of the same thickness. If broken, tempered glass will break-up into very small pieces.

By law do i need to replace a broken windshield?

FloridaBy law do i need to replace a broken windshield?
yesBy law do i need to replace a broken windshield?
If it in any way distorts your vision the law may require you to replace it.
If it impares you vision then most definatlly yes. Would you want someone driving near you that couldn't see well due to something like that? I know I wouldn't.
Yes. The windshield must pass inspection for safety. You get less than a second to respond in an accident...use your time clear eyed, save your life and someone elses. Think about your mother, son, daughter, wife? Do the right thing quickly and the legal thing.
Yes the law says that you must fix a broken or cracked windshield.
Mine has been cracked from top to bottom for 2 years now with no probs.
Yes. If the crack impedes your view, you will have to replace it. Keep in mind that cracks and chips will get worse over time unless they are ';drill stopped.'; If you can, have the crack drill stopped. However, if it's already too late and the crack is impeding your view, or likely to in the future, then you are obligated to get it replaced for safety reasons. Also keep in mind that law enforcement officers know cracks will get worse, and with that information, they will likely ticket you if they become aware of the defective windshield because they'll interpret the ';impede'; part of the statute quite liberally.

I have a 2005 Acura TL, my front windshield has a crack and I need to replace it.?

All the shops I call first thing they ask me is if my car has acustic windshield install.

I've never heard of an acoustic windshield, but the name seems to indicate that it has special sound/wind deafening material in it. I suggest calling the parts department at an Acura dealer to find out what you really have. You could certainly go with a regular windshield if cost is a bigger concern then wind noise, though I wonder how many decibels it really cuts down on?I have a 2005 Acura TL, my front windshield has a crack and I need to replace it.?
If the crack is small and is not in your view, then your ok. The Police will give you a ticket for a cracked windshield if the crack obstructs your veiw of the road. A crack could get bigger, if left in extreme temperatures, such as a hot summer day or cold winter night. This happened to me on a car I had in college. In the summer, the heat made the crack go across the left side of my windshield and in the winter, the cold made the crack go across the right side on my windshield, completely cracking my windshield in half. So if the crack is small and not leaking, your fine. If the crack is big, getting bigger, or a cop could see it, I advise to replace it.

I have gone to Honda dealer and ordered a new Honda CR_V by putting 500$ deposit. On the day of the delivery, dealer found a scratch on the windshield and said he will replace it with a new one. Lot of places I read the if the windshield is not properly installed, it will cause some problems.

Should I still take the car from this dealer after the windshield replacement ?Buying new Honda CR-V. Dealer found a scratch on the windshield, So he is replacing it. Can I still buy it ?
it is a new vehicle and is covered under waranty. to satisfy your concern though, find out what company is installing the new windshield and you can check with the better business bureau, consumer affairs and see if the company has had many complaints about their work.

If you still feel at unease, ask the dealer to switch to a different CRV.Buying new Honda CR-V. Dealer found a scratch on the windshield, So he is replacing it. Can I still buy it ?
yes it has a waranty if it is wrong get it fixed
Yeah sure why not. It's the Honda I would be more concerned about not having problems.
    Absolutely not!!

You're paying for a new car. Demand such or refund .
Yeah you should take the car. A honda windshield, installed by a honda tech, (or glass specialist), . covered by honda warrantee....where's the risk. Things unfortunatly happen to cars during transport. Any reason to think the dealership won't stand behind there products?

You ordrered one, as in, not in stock? Man, they got that one for you. You can cause a stink, demand the good faith deposit back, i guess, but you'll have to shop honda in another town.

    get er done

How much will it cost to replace a front windshield in a vw passat?

I am 16 years old and don't know to much about cars.I have a 1994 five speed (stick shift) VW Passat. Today I was out driving and some truck hit my windshield with a rock and my water pump also broke but my dad can fix that any ways the crack is going to spread. My brother is going to school for auto body, and he said that the crack was bad and may not be able to be fixed. So I just wanted to know how much it will cost to replace it. I only had the car for about two weeks and today every thing bad happens! :(How much will it cost to replace a front windshield in a vw passat?

Depending where you are located as to how much you will pay for a new screen. Cracked screens are not really suitable for repair.

Where I am in Brisbane , Australia, a new screen will cost around $160.00 fitted on site.
Call a place that replaces car windshields and have them give you a quote. They can come to you or it is a little cheaper if they have a shop and you can go there.
