dont go to the VW dealer. go to a specialist windscreen fitting workshop(s). get quotes over the phone from as many as possible.
also check with your insurance company. some will pay for a new windscreen without you having to pay an excess or make an accident claim.

If you have deductable insurance,check with the glass people on how much for cash.....
I replaced a windshield once where the whole replacement cost in cash, was less than my insurance deductible.....
call your insurance if you have glass coverage and it will cost you your deductible of usually $100 and if you take it to glassmasters they will accept what your insurance pays and it will be free.
